It was so nice to see so many of you at the Hanamatsuri Service last
month. With all of the beautiful flowers on the Hanamido, and flower
arrangements surrounding the alter area, is hard to beat. I want to thank all
those who gave monetary and flower donations to make the arrangements.
My thanks also goes out to those who came to decorate the Hanamido, it
shows the creativity of many people. For those of you who did attend the
service saw and heard Rev. Brian Nagata, who was our guest speaker. He also
brought news and a message from Rev. Jim & Boku Yanagihara; they are
doing well at their new living quarters in Fresno. Rev. Jim welcomed anyone to
stop by and say “hello”, when in the area. Following the service was another
one of our famous potluck luncheons!!
The month of May brings Memorial Day, a time to remember those who
gave their lives for our country, and those who have passed before us. The
annual multi denominational service at Mt. Hope Cemetery will be on
Monday, May 25 at 9:30 a.m. We are fortunate to be one of few areas to hold
this type of service. I would encourage all to attend the service, and pay
respects to your family and friends. May 23 will be our trip to Imperial Valley to
visit our friends and share the Dharma. As of now, Kenji Sensei and I will be
making the day trip. I know for my extended family, Memorial Day weekend is
the Indy 500, Padres Baseball and the start of Picnic Season! I wish you all a
safe and enjoyable Memorial Day.
